Two facing drug and child endangerment charges

Drug charges on their own can have serious consequences if a conviction ensues, but if there are children present when the alleged drug trafficking or abuse is taking place, it may result in additional charges.

This is the situation that arose in Ohio recently when two people were arrested in their apartment on a number of charges. According to agents, they were executing a search warrant when they found a 23-year-old woman, 24-year-old man and two young children in the premises. Additionally, they allegedly found drug and drug paraphernalia in the apartment.

According to the authorities, they found 1.1 grams of heroin in the trash, several uncapped syringes, a digital scale, a magazine with paper folds cut out from it (presumably to package heroin), a spoon with a cotton swab on it and cotton swabs with heroin residue. The suspects also made statements to the police, resulting in lesser charges for one of the two accused and harsher ones for the male. A 24-year-old male was charged with trafficking heroin which is a 3rd degree felony and endangering children, which is a first degree misdemeanor. The woman on the other hand, was charged with permitting drug abuse, a fifth degree felony and a first degree misdemeanor of endangering children.

First of all, it is important to keep in mind that one has certain rights when facing criminal charges, including the right to remain silent. Secondly, when two people are being accused of working together in a criminal enterprise, it is possible that one may make statements to their own benefit but to the detriment of the other. In these circumstances, it may be helpful to get the guidance of an experienced defense attorney to ensure one can protect their own interests.
