Fighting back against charges of white collar crimes

Since white collar crimes seem like victimless crimes, many in Cincinnati don't take the charges seriously. For example, when a violent crime is committed, the victim and their injuries can be identified and therefore charges stemming from those crimes are considered serious and those facing them fight aggressively to protect their rights. However, some people may not fight as aggressively when it comes to white collar criminal charges, and this can be a huge mistake.

White collar criminal charges, such as those for embezzlement, carry serious repercussions. Prison sentences and monetary compensation can be the result if the person facing the charges is convicted. In addition to this, a conviction affects one's reputation, employment and relationship with loved ones. Even allegations that turn out to be fruitless or charges that are later on dropped can have a long-lasting effect on someone's reputation and affect their business prospects for the future.

In order to prove white-collar crimes such as embezzlement, certain elements such as those mentioned in last week's post must be proven. This means if the defendant is able to cast a shadow on any one prong of the prosecution's case, they may be able to clear their name. This is why it can be beneficial to engage counsel from the onset so they can remain abreast of the case and have time to study the case in its entirety.
